Big Events project for Choices Intermediate

Choices Intermediate Project
Big Events
Objective:
·         Students will talk about an important event.
Products:
·         A nice presentation about an important event.
·         A text with information about the important event they chose for their presentation.
1.Brainstorming. Write important events on the board and ask your students to mention some of the important eents in the world.
Then, discuss about the popularity of these events with your students.
2. Use the questions in exercise 2 on page 102.
3. Give students five to ten minutes to complete the quiz on exercise 3 on page 102. It might be a good idea to pair students so that you have on student who likes football and one who doesn´t.
4. Allow your students to listen twice if necessary. The track is on exercise 4 on page 102. Ask students if any information surprised them.
5. Give students a few minutes to read through the text on exercise 5. Alternatively, you could ask various students to read a sentence each. Discuss the answers with the class.
6. You can use exercises 6, 7, 8 and 9 on pages 102-103 if most of your students like soccer. If they prefer different events I suggest you to show them one of these videos about a topic of their interest.
·         Rio de Janeiro Carnival  https://youtu.be/kTc3pv7d5vY
·         Olympic games https://youtu.be/QanuaKBgNhc
7. Tell your students they will choose an important event and in groups of three people they will make some research and prepare a presentation. Tell them to use these notes as a guide:
·         Why it was important
·         The atmosphere  before it
·         Who you watched the event with
·         What happened during the event n
·         How you felt at the end
·         What happened afterwards
·         Show statistics of popularity
Also, tell them they will prepare a text for the presentation explaining the most important aspects of this event. This will be one of the grades for the first period. They should also use prezi, powerpoint or something similar to make some slides to show their presentation.
Note: I think they can do some of this work in class, but they will have to work at home if necessary.
