Great Festivals (Pre-Inter Units 1,2 and 3)

Description of the project

Main aim:

- At the end of the project, students will be able to describe and discuss festivals around the world using appropriate vocabulary and form.

Subsidiary aims:

- Students will conduct research on a particular festival.

-  Students will build vocabulary about celebrations and important events around the world

-  Students will give detailed opinions about festivals and celebrations around the world.

Project stages

1. Students will discuss in groups how they break their everyday routine, and they will take notes of their ideas in this graphic organizer.  They will also evaluate whether the pace if their lives is fast or slow.  Have them compare their answers and discuss how each of them would like that to change.

2. Video Watching: Students will watch a top ten of iconic music festivals and talk about how people break their routine doing it (Connect to lesson 2).
   - Before watching: Ask students what kind of music festivals they like and where they have gone to. Find out if they enjoy it and why.
   - During watching: Show students the Top Ten Iconic Music Festivals. Ask them which one of teh estivals they have heard of, if they would like to attend and why?

   - After watching: See if students can rememeber the 10 festivals shown among all the students and vote which one would be the coolest. Then, make the students say what information they caught from the listening. Go on to ask them what other kind of festivals they like.

3. Discusion: Elicit students to say what theit favorite Sports events are and why they are the most important in the world. Give them type to answer these following questions:
1) Why is this event important in the world?
2) How this helps with world issues?
3) How this event unites people?
4) It is event positive for the hosts? Why?
5) What is your opinion on this event? Give details.

4. Photo description: Students will bring a photo from an iconic moment in sports.  They will describe it to their groups, and then they will put the photos together to produce a poster, which they will present to the rest of the class.    The rest of the group will try to guess which picture they are describing.

5. Game: Play this game to review the unit and keep the content fresh.

6. Top five films: Students will create a top five list of the best movies they have seen. They will ask their partners what they like about the films and why. Check out if there are a couple of films that resonate with the audience. Remember to use vocabulary from page 13.

7. How to save money: As part of an assignment, make students collect at least 5 recommendations on how to save or to avoid spending money. The following class they will share their findings with the group. 

8. Presentation on Celebration: Students will do a presentation on a celebration they like from around the world. The presentation must use visual support, but avoid using any kind of text support beyond keywords for them; they can use power point, pictures, photos or running videos in silence. Then, they will have to cover the following information.

1) Explain the celebration. 
2) Describe the origins of the festivity. 
3) When and where it is celebrated.
4) What type of crowds go there, how many people attend and why is the celebration famous.
5) Give your opinion on the festival, include details of what you like and what you woud do there.
