Choices Upper Intermediate Period 1 Project

My Culture Project:
Objectives: To inform eachother about the cultural history of Colombia focusing on different periods in the past.  Inspire dialogue. Use of different past forms.

Materials:  Internet, computer, posterboard and markers (optional)

Lead-in:  pg106 of Choices Upper listening ex2.  Talking about the Civil Rights Movement in the USA. Listen to the talk and complete the notes about the topic.  Then discuss the questions in ex 3 about the listening.

Project steps:
In groups of 3-4 students
1. Choose time period (for example, late 19th century)
2. Identify the situation (e.g. suffragettes)
3. What were the issues (e.g. women's right to vote, what men thought about it, posters and propaganda, what women against it said, etc.) This should include more than one point of view.
4. Who were the leaders (e.g. Susan B. Anthony)
5.  What was the result? Is it still an issue today?

Requirements of presentation:

Visual aids (pics, short videos, props)
Written report
Everyone must speak
Must involve audience in presentation somehow: e.g. ask them questions, handouts

2nd Period Project
Newscast
Objective:  Upper Intermediate students will record themselves reporting a news segment.  The segments to be included can be:  International news, Colombian news, Medellin news, and San Carlos news.  To give incentive to other students to try for the highest levels we are showcasing this newscast on the Morning announcements (Date to be Announced).

Step 1: Groups of students decide what their segment will be about, what stories they are going to report on. 1 or 2 people will be an anchorperson.

Step 2:  Students must turn in a written script of segment (writing task)

Step 3:  Filming

Step 4:  Editing

Step 5:  Review with them the final product and then turn it into the rectora.

Materials necessary:  Video recording deviSs will work in pairs to fully develop and execute a science project.

2. A three-sided display poster must be constructed. Pictures can and should be included in the poster to show the procedure. (See attached Science Project Example)
3. A thorough written report should be turned in to accompany the poster. There will be a rough and final draft. Rough Draft due: Aug. 5th
4. Each project will be presented on two occassions. Once to your classmates and then to other 10th graders. ce of some sort.  Computer with app to movie edit.

3rd Period Project

Science Fair
Objective:  Upper Intermediate students will identify a scientific law or principle and demonstrate it in the form of a science project.

Ss will work in pairs to fully develop and execute their science project.

Steps: 

1. Identify the scientific theory/principle to be demonstrated in the project.


2. A three-sided display poster must be constructed. Pictures can and should be included in the poster to show the procedure. (See attached Science Project Example)


3. A thorough written report should be turned in to accompany the poster. There will be a rough and final draft. Rough Draft due: Aug. 5th


4. Each project will be presented on two occassions. Once to your classmates and then to other 10th graders.
